Bradford dean

THE Revd Jonathan Triffitt, Salisbury Diocesan Director of Mission and Ministry since 2020, is to be Interim Dean of Bradford Cathedral, in Leeds diocese, for three years. He trained for ministry at St John’s College, Nottingham, was ordained priest in 2004, and served his title in west London. In 2016, he moved to Salisbury diocese, where he has served in parishes, as a school chaplain, and as a rural dean. He is also a canon of Salisbury Cathedral.

Salisbury diocese said that Canon Triffitt had played a major part in the development of the diocesan vision and strategy, and had contributed to last year’s application for national funding, in which more than £5 million was awarded to support rural churches (News, 12 September 2025).

He succeeds the Very Revd Andrew Bowerman, who had been in post since 2022 and took up the post of Dean of a group of Christian schools in Melbourne, Australia, this week. Dean Bowerman was ordained priest in 2003 to a title in Bradford diocese, during which time he set up a not-for-profit business, Vicars Café Bistro, and was chaplain to Bradford City FC. He then served in Wareham, in Salisbury diocese, before becoming Executive Director of the Anglican Alliance (2014-18). He was a Regional Director for the Mission to Seafarers before taking up his current post.

He and his wife, Ali, have four children, and have fostered 24 across 15 years.

Of his new appointment, he told the BBC: “This just seemed like a really exciting opportunity to try and help pupils stay curious about faith and learn about faith.”
